Located on Birstall Road, Gunns Gym was first launched with funds raised from the sale of part of Carl’s memorabilia collection. Over the years, it has transformed into one of the largest boxing gyms in the country, open six days a week and drawing in hundreds of regular attendees. These cherished artifacts, some of the largest in European boxing memorabilia, are expected to bring in thousands of pounds, which Carl intends to use for much-needed facility upgrades. “I may have had one of the largest collections in Europe,” he shared, “but the kids mean more to me than my collection. The gym is essential to the community, and we see a lot of interest. I’m hoping this sale will help keep our facilities in top shape.”

Although Gunns Gym thrives, a recent setback has complicated Carl’s plan to expand to a larger space for those over 16, as the Charnwood Borough Council denied permission for the new venue. Despite this, Carl remains hopeful and committed to the gym’s future, emphasizing that the proceeds from his memorabilia sale will ensure Gunns Gym continues to be a safe, supportive haven for young athletes.
